humanity wrapped
in hurricane hell

still home, clinging to life
in the attic

the race to flee death
and miles to go

welcomed rain--
the New Orleans hurricane
on T.V.

disaster strikes--
the looters
wait their turn

flood waters--
a cat paces
the roof

evacuees--
family pictures and
a teddy bear

a rescue boat
chugs down Main Street--
the soft thump

Haiku incatenati / Enchained haiku

cosa rimane
dei sogni e dei canti
degl'innocenti?

il grande fiume
li conserva nel grembo
rifioriranno

what is left
of the innocents'
dreams and songs?

the great river
keeps them in its womb
they will reflourish

Moussia
Roma

summer storm
lives and dreams
over so soon

after the storm
only the dying among
the dying

masses suffer-
just feeling sorry
is not enough

smell of death-
a mother wades the school yard
alone

Darrell Byrd
Imperial Valley, California USA

'a bit of katrina'

emergency response dubya in crawford with the goat story
global warning man-made nature
bestest place in the world overdue a race and/or poor riot
'the big easy' full of the blues to score
overgrown but not grown up wordy suits and uniforms
then the seasoned reporter's breath cracked
'mother nature's wrath' prayers to something made up
borrowed rain unnamed tho the better
